The Israeli army confirmed on Friday that five of the hostages kidnapped by the Palestinian terrorist group “Hamas” in Israel on October 7 and taken to the Gaza Strip have died.
“Over the past few days, the Israel Defense Forces and Israel Police have informed the families of hostages Eliyahu Margalit, Maja Goren, Ronen Engel and Arje Zalmanovitz of their deaths,” said army spokesman Daniel Hagari.
He also said that the army had brought the body of the fifth dead hostage, Ofir Carfati, to Israel. Carfati was abducted from a rave party near the Gaza Strip during the Hamas attacks on October 7.
The army said separately that soldiers and the Shin Bet internal security service found Carfati’s body in the Gaza Strip in recent days, which was taken to Israel for burial. The family was informed of his death on Wednesday.
Hagari said militants were still holding “136 hostages, including 17 women and children” in the Gaza Strip.
