Israeli army claims it killed a Hamas commander on third day of operation in the West Bank – Diario La Página – 2024-09-02 03:40:25

The Israeli army announced that it had killed three Palestinian fighters on its third day of operations in the occupied West Bank, saying they belonged to Hamas, the Islamist movement considered a terrorist organization by the EU, the United States and other countries, and with whom Israel has been at war in Gaza since its October 7 attacks on Israeli territory.

Witnesses told AFP that a car was shelled by Israel in Zababdeh, south-east of Jenin, and that Israeli soldiers searched the vehicle after the attack. An AFP journalist saw human remains being removed from the car.

According to a military statement, Wasem Hazem was among those killed in Jenin, who was said to have died along with two other alleged militants who tried to “flee from the vehicle they were in.”

The other two dead were Maysara Masharqa and Arafat Amer, according to the army, while Hamas has not yet commented.

The attack took place in cooperation with Border Police forces and the internal intelligence service (Shin Bet). According to Israel, Hazem participated in carrying out and directing attacks in the West Bank and against Israeli communities.

Third day of Israeli attacks on the West Bank
For the third day in a row, the city of Jenin and its refugee camp have faced an Israeli military incursion, with armored vehicles, snipers and air power, which has already left eight Palestinians dead in the past two days, according to the Health Ministry.

Six Palestinians have been killed in Tulkarem since Wednesday (27.08.2024), including the commander of the Islamic Jihad brigade in this West Bank city, and four other Palestinians killed in a drone attack in Tubas.

In Tulkarem, where the destruction of infrastructure is widespread, in addition to the burning of half a dozen homes, Israeli troops withdrew last night. “Yes, it is true that (the incursion) is over and the occupation has withdrawn. But the people of the camp are still afraid that they will restart a military operation in Nur Shams,” a local Palestinian source told the EFE news agency.
