Israeli Armed Forces Close Major Highway in Gaza Strip, Tanks Used & Heavy Bombing Ensues

Oct 30, 2023 at 12:02 Update: 3 minutes ago

The Israeli armed forces have closed a major highway from north to south Gaza with tanks, eyewitnesses told news agency AFP. According to them, cars trying to drive on the road are shot at by the IDF.

“We are gradually progressing according to plan,” IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari told the press on Monday morning. But he did not want to say anything about the tanks on the main road.

Hagari declined to confirm the location of the ground forces after images of advancing tanks on a main road in Gaza emerged on social media. The spokesperson did say that Israeli soldiers are stationed along the northern border of the Gaza Strip.

Israel has previously killed “dozens” of Palestinian militants in ground attacks in the Gaza Strip, according to the military. Tanks are also said to have been used.

They are said to have crossed the border with the Gaza Strip and attacked Hamas positions. Images published by the armed forces allegedly show that the armed forces have advanced to the west coast of the Gaza Strip.

Heavy bombing of the Gaza Strip

The Israeli army also said on Monday morning that it had hit more than six hundred targets in the Gaza Strip in 24 hours. It would be one of the heaviest bombings in the war against Hamas to date. The bombings are said to target, among other things, weapons depots and launching positions for anti-tank missiles.

An ambulance was also destroyed in a bombing in the north of the Gaza Strip, according to the Palestinian branch of the Red Crescent aid organization.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that at least twenty Palestinians were killed and dozens of others were injured in the night from Sunday to Monday.

According to the Palestinian ministry, the war in Gaza has so far cost the lives of more than 8,300 people. According to the authorities, this concerns 3,457 children. The administration in Gaza is under the control of Hamas.

According to humanitarian organizations, it is not possible to verify the figures mentioned. In the past, such figures have proven to be reliable. The UN organizations UNRWA, OCHA and WHO and human rights organization Human Rights Watch, among others, assume that the data is broadly correct.
