Israeli airstrikes against Aleppo airport in Syria north caused flight termination on Monday (28/8). Syrian news agency SANA reported, citing a military source.
“At approximately 0430 (0130 GMT) this morning, the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial aggression from the Mediterranean west of Latakia, targeting Aleppo International Airport,” the source said, as reported by the news agency. AFP, Monday (28/8/2023) while adding that this resulted in damage to the airport runway.
Monday’s attack comes a week after two fighters supporting the Syrian government were killed in an Israeli air strike near Damascus, said the Observatory, which relies on a network of sources on the ground in Syria.
During more than 12 years of civil war in Syria, Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on its territory, mainly targeting Iranian-backed forces and Lebanese Hezbollah militias as well as Syrian army positions.
Authority Israel rarely comment on the attacks they carry out in Syria. However, Israel has repeatedly said that it will not allow its arch-rival, Iran, to expand its presence in the country.
The attacks have led to repeated groundings at airports in Aleppo and the capital Damascus, both of which are controlled by the government.
