Details: Full details of the attack have not been released, although Iran’s official news agency IRNA reported that it took place in a Damascus suburb.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said Israel “will certainly pay for this crime.”

According to media reports, Mousavi was responsible for military coordination between Tehran and Damascus as part of the Quds Force.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Israel fired on Mousavi at a farm in an area where the extremist group Hezbollah reportedly had several offices. In recent months, Israeli troops have fired intensely at Hezbollah positions along the Lebanese border.

Israel has not commented on the attack, but Tel Aviv has previously said it will not allow Iran to establish a presence in Syria.
