The Israeli Air Force launched an attack targeting Aleppo Airport in northern Syria for the second time within 48 hours, causing it to be out of service.
A Syrian military source said in a statement: “At approximately 11:35 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023, the Israeli enemy carried out an air attack from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, west of Latakia, targeting Aleppo International Airport, which led to material damage to the airport and it being out of service.”
The Syrian Ministry of Transport said in a statement that flights scheduled through Aleppo International Airport (arriving and departing) were diverted to Latakia International Airport.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Israeli air strikes from the direction of the sea targeted Aleppo International Airport, hours after it was restored to service, which led to it being out of service again.
The Observatory indicated that Aleppo International Airport returned to work on Saturday morning, less than 48 hours after the Israeli strikes on Thursday afternoon, October 12, which put the Aleppo and Damascus international airports out of service, while airlines continue to schedule their flights through Latakia “Hmeimim” Airport, pending repair. The damaged parts of the runways at Damascus International Airport, which are nearing completion thanks to the efforts of maintenance teams.
