Israeli Air Defense System Intercepts Missiles Over Jerusalem, Hamas Claims Responsibility

Israeli air defense systems intercepted several missiles in the airspace of Jerusalem shortly after the sirens sounded on Friday, according to what AFP reporters reported.

The Israeli army announced that sirens sounded in Jerusalem for the first time since October 30.

AFP journalists saw at least two missiles being intercepted by the air defense system.

For its part, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Hamas movement, announced “the bombing of occupied Jerusalem with a missile salvo in response to the massacres” against civilians.

Six rockets were fired towards Jerusalem, three of which were intercepted, according to the Israeli army. Emergency services did not announce any casualties.

According to the Palestinian police in the occupied West Bank, a “rocket” landed in an uninhabited area near the Istishari Hospital in northwest Ramallah, without causing any casualties, and it was not immediately possible to determine its source.

A police spokesman told Agence France-Presse: “We believe it is a ‘David’s Sling’ missile (referring to Israeli interceptor missiles) because its range is closer,” and work is underway to confirm this.

On October 7, Hamas launched a surprise attack on the Israeli border towns with the Gaza Strip, killing 1,200 people, most of them civilians, most of whom died on the first day, according to the Israeli authorities.

Israel responded by bombing the Gaza Strip and launched a ground operation on the 27th of the same month. More than 18,000 people were killed in the Israeli bombing, according to the Hamas government.
