Israel’s Ministry of Health approves coronavirus vaccination for children aged 5 to 11, reports Reuters.
The start date of vaccination for this age group will be announced within a week. Children will be vaccinated with Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines in doses of 10 micrograms. Previously, the companies said that such a dosage was shown to be effective against coronavirus in 90.7% of cases.
Now in Israel children from 12 years of age and older are vaccinated with a dosage of 30 mcg. The expansion of the group should contribute to the development of herd immunity.
There are 9.4 million children in the country. About 1.2 million are children in the 5-11 age group. The Ministry of Health said that the country will not be able to achieve herd immunity if these children are not vaccinated.
Recall that Israel will be the first in the world to hold national exercises to combat the spread of coronavirus infection, the purpose of which will be to test the country’s readiness for a potential outbreak of a new variant of COVID-19.
