Israel “welcomes” a US plan to build a “temporary dock” off the coast of Gaza to transport humanitarian aid by sea and will coordinate the development of the project in cooperation with Washington, an Israeli official said.
Israel is “fully supportive” of building that facility, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity, after US sources said President Joe Biden would announce tonight that the US military would build a “port” to deliver food , medicine and other supplies to civilians in the besieged Palestinian enclave.
According to foreign reports, the port will be built by US military and engineers who will operate on ships off Gaza and who will not have to go ashore, US officials said. Aid deliveries will be moved from the port of Larnaca in Cyprus, which will become the main aid hub, the Guardian reports.
