Tel Aviv –
Israeli Authority warned citizens abroad to be careful of burning grudges Iran. Iran called for avenging the death of a top nuclear scientist killed last week.
Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, an Iranian nuclear scientist, was killed in a bomb attack and armed attack on the streets of Tehran on Friday (27/11) last week. Iranian authorities blame Israel and its intelligence agency, Mossad, for being behind the killings. Iran also vowed to avenge Fakhrizadeh’s death.
“In view of the recent threats from Iranian elements … we fear Iran will attack Israeli targets,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said in a statement. AFP, Friday (4/12/2020).
The Israeli Foreign Ministry warned that a potential attack could hit Israeli citizens in Africa and in countries geographically close to Iran, such as Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, the Kurdish region of Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain are known to have agreed to normalize diplomatic relations with Israel last September. Commercial flights between Dubai and Tel Aviv were restored late last month.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, who was scheduled to visit Bahrain at the weekend to attend a regional conference, reportedly canceled the visit after Iran blamed Israel for Fakhrizadeh’s death and threatened revenge.
Israeli authorities did not respond directly to Iran’s accusations. But the Prime Minister (PM) of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, on Thursday (3/12) local time, accused Iran of using the international nuclear deal to “expand” its influence in Iraq, Yemen and Syria. Netanyahu said the nuclear deal put the ‘tigers’ out of their cage.
Separately, Israel’s National Security Council, which alluded to attacks in France, Germany and Austria, said that global jihadi organizations, particularly the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) group, had “demonstrated high motivation to carry out terrorist attacks”.
“It is possible that part of the current wave of Islamist terrorism will reach targets identified as linked to Israel or the Jewish community, synagogues, kosher restaurants and Jewish museums,” read a National Security Council warning.
Every Israeli traveler is also required to check any warnings regarding the purpose of their trip.
