Israel Urged to Bombard Iran Later This Year

TEL AVIV Israel urged to bombard Iran later this year if no new nuclear deal is reached. This call was conveyed by a member of the Likud Parliament, the opposition party led by former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Likud MP, Tzachi Hanegbi, said his party offered full support for a military strike against Iran.

“Iran is an existential threat. We give full support to this government if a decision is made for an attack. We are approaching the crossroads of decisions on the Iran issue,” Hanegbi was quoted as saying Times of Israel, Sunday (31/10/2021).

“If there is no agreement between Iran and world powers, we will have to attack Iran by the end of 2021,” he said.

The opposition leader, Benjamin Netanyahu, is highly critical of Prime Minister (PM) Naftali Bennett, especially on the Iran issue. PM Bennett has responded to the urging by saying that his predecessor government was stagnant on the Iran issue.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military has been holding massive war games amid its preparations to deal with orders to attack Iran.

Hanegbi’s comments came as US President Joe Biden and European leaders expressed their growing concern at Iran’s nuclear activities. They reportedly discussed potential plans if Tehran refused to return to the negotiating table.

Iran, which has suspended indirect negotiations with the United States in Vienna over a mutual return to the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, said last week that it would restart negotiations at the end of November.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan replied that the US was still trying to determine whether Iran was serious about negotiations.
