Dozens of Haredi, ultra-Orthodox Jews, stormed an Israeli army recruitment office to protest the conscription of Yeshiva students, in the first days of conscription of ultra-conservative Jewish Talmudic students.
Thousands of conscription orders were sent last week to students of yeshiva, or Jewish schools, by order of Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallad and the Israeli Armed Forces’ (IDF) Manpower Directorate.
The IDF plans to send another three thousand alerts next Tuesday. The first round of recruitment began on Monday, with about 1,000 notices already issued while two more rounds will be sent at two-week intervals.
Dozens of ultra-Orthodox extremist protesters, however, stormed the military base, jumping over the fence to try to prevent the conscription of yeshiva students.

Footage shown by Israeli television channel Channel 12 shows the situation spiraling out of control, with protesters clashing with security forces.
Yesterday, again hundreds of ultra-orthodox men clashed with Israeli police in Tel Hasomer demonstrating for the same reasons.
In late June, Israel’s attorney general announced that the conscription process for 3,000 ultra-conservative Jewish Talmudic students must begin immediately, following a ruling by Israel’s Supreme Court that lifted the exemption for members of Israel’s ultra-Orthodox community from conscription. which applies to the rest of the citizens.
