The Government announced the regularization of nine settlements built in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank) without state permission, a measure presented as a response to an attack in Jerusalem last Friday in which a Palestinian terrorist ran over and killed three Israelis.
“In response to the murderous terror attacks in Jerusalem, the Security Cabinet unanimously decided to regularize nine communities in Judea and Samaria,” the government press office reported, using the Biblical name for the West Bank.
“These communities have existed for many years, some have existed for decades,” the statement added, referring to the settlements that will be regularized.
The Government also reported that in the coming days “the construction of new homes” in existing settlements will be approved, a measure that had already been advanced by the Executive shortly after another attack in Jerusalem at the end of January in which a Palestinian terrorist murdered seven civilians outside a synagogue.
“The Security Cabinet made a series of additional decisions in the framework of the fight against terrorism, including the reinforcement of the Police and Border Guard units in Jerusalem,” added the government statement, which also detailed that “the police operations against inciters and defenders of terrorism”.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the decision in a statement naming the illegal settlements of Avigayil, Beit Hogla, Givat Harel, Givat Arnon, Mitzpe Yehuda, Malachei Hashalom, Asahel, Sde Boaz and Shacharit. Aurora and EFE
