“This step will increase state revenues and strengthen diplomatic relations between Israel and Egypt,” Katz wrote in a post on the social media platform (X), without providing further details.
Reuters said the move comes amid renewed interest in offshore exploration in Israel, and a debate over whether the gas should be kept for domestic use.
