Israel: Threatens nuclear weapons if Iran responds to future Israeli attacks on its infrastructure – 2024-10-06 05:15:56

The eyes of the whole world are on Israel, awaiting its inevitable response to Iran’s attack with 180 ballistic missiles. The Israelis announced that they would “choose the time and manner” of the response.

Israel has long had an eye on Iran’s nuclear program and knows – as well as anyone – that if it managed to strike a decisive blow at its nuclear facilities, that would be the worst thing for Tehran.

Israel has confirmed it will use nuclear weapons if Iran retaliates against possible Israeli attacks on Iranian facilities, warning that any further aggression by Iran could lead to catastrophic consequences.

Israel has yet to give guarantees it won’t strike Iran’s nukes, the US says

Israel has given no assurances that it will not target Iran’s nuclear facilities in retaliation for Iranian ballistic missile strikes earlier this week, a top State Department official said.

The US State Department official added that it was “really hard to say” whether Israel would use the October 7 anniversary of the Hamas attacks to retaliate.

“We hope and expect to see some wisdom as well as strength, but as you know, there are no guarantees,” the official said when asked by CNN if Israel has assured the US that Iran’s nuclear facilities are off the table.

Earlier this week, President Joe Biden said the US would not support Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear program.
US officials do not yet know when Israel’s response will be decided or put into effect.

Asked whether Israel would use the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack to retaliate against Iran, the official said “it’s really hard to say.”

“I think in some ways they would like to avoid hitting the 7th of the month, so in my estimation, if anything happens it will probably be before or after,” the official said.

The US has been working for nearly a year to prevent the conflict from turning into an all-out war – and so far it has succeeded, the official said. Right now, “this is borderline,” the official added.
