Israel: Thousands of people demonstrate in Jerusalem for the second consecutive day to call for early elections

MADRID, 1 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Jerusalem this Monday for the second consecutive day to call for early elections in Israel within the framework of the so-called “national week of protest” called by the opposition against the unity government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Protesters have placed tents and posters in memory of the hostages held by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) along Kaplan Street, near the Parliament or Knesset, according to the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

The former ‘number two’ of the Israeli Army’s General Staff, Yair Golan, has assured that the hostages held in the Palestinian enclave would already be at home if there was another government. “But instead, we are stuck with the Netanyahu-Gantz government,” he said.

The protesters intend to maintain the camp for at least four days and have called for a large daily demonstration at 7:00 p.m. throughout this week. There will also be rallies in front of the homes of deputies from the coalition that supports Netanyahu.

The week of protests will culminate on Saturday, April 6, with a large demonstration on Kaplan Street and Kidnapped Square in Tel Aviv to remember the six months of the attacks by Palestinian militias in Gaza and the beginning of the kidnapping of more than one hundreds of hostages still in the enclave.
