Israel: The cabinet approved the ceasefire in Lebanon – Netanyahu’s statement (Video) –

Israel’s security cabinet approved a 60-day ceasefire agreement in Lebanon on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

The deal is expected to take effect on Wednesday, according to Channel 12 television.

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, delivered a speech after the conclusion of the meeting of the country’s cabinet. Details of the plan are expected to be announced at 10pm by the US.

Netanyahu began his speech by saying he was proud of the “resilience” shown by Israelis living in the north and that Israel would return the citizens of the north to their homes.

Mr. Netanyahu also says his government is committed to returning the remaining hostages from Gaza.

Israel’s prime minister says the country is committed to “complete the destruction of Hamas.”

On Lebanon, he says “I am looking at all fronts at once” and “that is why tonight I will present to the cabinet a plan for a cease-fire in Lebanon.”

“The duration of the ceasefire depends on what happens in Lebanon.

“If Hezbollah tries to attack us, if they arm themselves and rebuild infrastructure near the border, we will attack.”

He continues that the time is “right for a ceasefire” for three reasons – the Iranian threat, the renewal of Israeli forces and the isolation of Hamas.

Hezbollah will remain active after the ceasefire

Hezbollah will remain active after the end of the war with Israel, including helping displaced Lebanese return to their villages and rebuilding areas destroyed by Israeli raids, a senior Hezbollah official and member of parliament said today. Hasan Fandala.

Fandala told Reuters that Lebanon was facing “dangerous, sensitive hours” ahead of the expected announcement of a ceasefire, given the Israeli air force’s escalating airstrikes this afternoon in Beirut and its southern suburbs.
