Israel shuts down for Yom Kippur, first time at war since 1973 – Last Hour

From this evening all services are closed in Israel for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, the holiest in the Jewish calendar: this year is the first time Israel has been in a state of war on this date from 1973, when it was attacked by the armies of Egypt and Syria.

The country remains on high alert due to fighting in Gaza and Lebanon. Due to the security situation, the IDF Home Front Command reminds the public that it is possible to turn the radio station on to broadcast silently except for the rocket warning siren, which will be broadcast at loud, in real time. Flights in and out of the country ceased on Friday evening and will only resume when Yom Kippur ends on Saturday evening. The streets are almost empty all day.
