Israel sends proposal to Hamas for two-month pause in fighting and hostage release

Israel sent Hamas a proposal through Qatari and Egyptian intermediaries for a two-month pause in the fighting.

This was done as part of a multi-stage agreementAxios reported Monday.

The deal will include the release of all remaining hostages, held in Gaza, the report added. Israeli officials are quoted as saying.

Netanyahu and Hamas remain steadfast in their demands

The fate of the remaining hostages in Gaza is unclear

We remind you that a group of relatives of Israelis taken hostage by Hamas fighters stormed a meeting of the parliamentary committee in Jerusalem on Monday, demanding that the deputies to do more to try to free their loved ones.

Around 130 Israeli hostages remain held in Gaza after others were recalled at home during the armistice in November.

“Only one would like to come back alive, at least one of the three!” chanted a female protester after interrupting the Knesset Finance Committee discussion. Other protesters, wearing black T-shirts, held signs that read: “You will not sit here while they die there.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday rejected the terms put forward by Hamas for an end to the war and the release of hostages – the complete withdrawal of Israel and leaving “Hamas” in power in Gaza.

After Israeli jets resumed bombing Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters that the Israeli leader’s refusal to end the military offensive in Gaza meant there was no chance for the return of the Israeli captives.

The Israeli army uncovered an underground tunnel in which Hamas was holding hostages

About 20 hostages were variously held there

“In exchange for the release of our hostages, Hamas demands an end to the war, the withdrawal of our forces from Gaza, the release of all murderers and rapists,” the prime minister said in a statement. I categorically reject the conditions for handing over the monsters to Hamas, Netanyahu said.

Hamas, the armed movement that controls the Gaza Strip, launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, killing around 1,140 people in Israel, most of them civilians.

The militants also took about 250 hostages during the attacks, with Israel saying about 132 of them remain in Gaza.

Over 25,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war in Gaza began

The latter was one of the deadliest days of the conflict so far

Israel has vowed to “destroy” Hamas and its relentless air and ground offensive has killed at least 25,105 people, mostly women and children.
