Israel sends aid delegation after high-rise collapse in Florida

Tel Aviv. After the partial collapse of a twelve-story apartment building in the US state of Florida, Israel sent a delegation to help with the recovery. A spokeswoman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed on Sunday that the team had left the evening before. So far, five victims have been identified at the scene of the accident in Surfside near Miami, and more than 150 others are still missing.

The building near the beach with around 130 residential units had partially collapsed on Thursday night. The misfortune surprised people in their sleep. A desperate search for survivors has been going on ever since.

Many missing people belong to the Jewish community

The Israeli delegation is led by a reserve colonel from the Military Rescue Service. It should help with the rescue efforts on site and help the Jewish community with the identification of victims and survivors, it said in a message.

Israel’s Foreign Minister Jair Lapid said Israel has “no greater friend than the United States and America has no greater friend than Israel”. In difficult times you stand by your American friends and the Jewish community in Florida. According to Israeli media reports, many of those missing after the accident in Florida belong to the Jewish community.
