Military positions targeted in Syria
The Syrian army’s anti-aircraft defenses were activated early Saturday to thwart an Israeli air attack, a military source cited by the official Syrian national agency SANA reported, at a time when Israel said it was launching strikes in Iran.
Around 2 o’clock (1 hour in Paris), “the Israeli enemy launched an aerial attack with salvos of missiles” taken from “the occupied Syrian Golan and Lebanon” against “military positions in the center and the south” of Syria, said this military source.
“Our anti-aircraft defense confronted the enemy’s missiles and shot down a number of them”added this source, saying that an assessment of the potential impact of “aggression” was still in progress.
Earlier, the SANA agency mentioned “sounds of explosions” heard in the vicinity of the Syrian capital, Damascus.
For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH) assured that “Israeli aircraft targeted an anti-aircraft defense position of the Syrian army in the Suweida region”in southern Syria.
“Air defense has been activated” in several regions of the country, notably in Homs (center) and Damascus and its surroundings, to “attempt to target Israeli planes crossing Syrian airspace”Rami Abdel Rahmane, director of OSDH, an NGO which has a vast network of sources in Syria, told Agence France-Presse.
