Israel Results Confirm Pfizer Vaccine Efficacy

The effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech in Israel, where the largest percentage of the world’s population is currently vaccinated against coronavirus, has exceeded 95 percent. These data were published by the Israeli Ministry of Health.

This means that among people who received two doses of the vaccine, the number of cases of coronavirus infection is 95 percent less than among the unvaccinated population. In relation to a severe form of infection and death, this figure reaches 99 percent.

In pre-vaccination clinical trials, vaccine efficacy was estimated at the same 95 percent.

Study how reported by Der Spiegel, also showed that the vaccine is effective not only to protect against infection, but also to prevent its transmission – in 89.4 percent of cases, vaccinated people do not transmit the virus to other people.

In Israel, to date, about half of the country’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, and about 2.9 million – that’s 30 percent – have received two doses. Vaccination has not yet taken place among children. The authorities have set the goal of vaccinating the entire adult population by the end of March.

With the start of the mass vaccination campaign, the number of new infections and deaths from it in Israel began to decline. In mid-January, there were about 80 thousand active cases of the disease in the country, now there are less than 50 thousand. The country’s authorities began to gradually weaken quarantine measures. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to allow those already vaccinated to visit restaurants, cultural events, and travel abroad.

Vaccinations are also progressing at a relatively fast pace in the UK and the USA. The EU countries lag behind them.
