Israel detected its first case of Florona, believed to be a double infection of Covid-19 and influenza. The news about Florona comes at a time when the world is battling a new wave of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic driven by the new variant of Omicron.
According to the report, the first case was recorded in a pregnant woman who was admitted to Rabin Medical Center for delivery. Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the young woman was not vaccinated.
However, it was emphasized that Flurona is not a new variant. Doctors say Florona is being studied because Israel has seen a spike in influenza cases in recent weeks.
Dr Nahla Abdel Wahab, a doctor at Cairo University Hospital, told Israeli media that Florona may indicate a major damage to the immune system due to the two viruses entering the human body simultaneously.
The head of the IDI Task Force, Prof. Zubairi Djoerban, also highlighted the emergence of the Florona case. He emphasized that Florona was not a new variant of COVID-19.

He also said this dual combination is indicated to damage the immune system and is being studied further.
