Tel Aviv –
Authority Israel reported decreased vaccine effectiveness corona virus (COVID-19) made by Pfizer-BioNTech in preventing transmission and symptomatic disease. However, Israel emphasized that Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine remains very effective in preventing severe disease.
As reported Reuters, Tuesday (6/7/2021), the decrease in the effectiveness of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was detected to coincide with the spread Corona varian Delta and ending restrictions social distancing in Israel.
The Israeli Ministry of Health reported that the effectiveness of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in preventing both transmission and symptomatic disease has decreased to 64 percent since June 6.
At the same time, said the Israeli Ministry of Health, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was declared 93 percent effective in preventing hospitalization and serious illness due to the Corona virus.
In a statement, Israel’s Health Ministry did not elaborate on the previous level of effectiveness or provide further details.
But last May, ministry officials released a report that said two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine provided more than 95 percent protection against Corona transmission, hospitalization and severe illness.
A Pfizer spokesman declined to comment on the Israeli data, but cited other studies showing that vaccine-induced antibodies were still capable of neutralizing all tested variants, including the Delta variant, albeit with reduced strength.
