The Israeli Army published video images supposedly showing the house where the Hamas leader died, Yahya Sinwarmoments before the Israeli attack this Wednesday that caused his death.
In a video of less than a minute published this Thursday by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), you can see the remains of an attacked house where they identify Sinwar as a man sitting on a sofa with his face masked and missing a hand and he throws a wooden stick with the other without too much force towards the drone that is recording.
According to the Army’s Arabic spokesman, Avichay Adraee, in Wednesday’s attack they identified three people in a neighborhood of Tel al-Sultan, neighboring Rafah, in southern Gaza, who were attacked when trying to flee from a house.
There supposedly Sinwar, accused of being the mastermind of the attacks of October 7, 2023fled to another building where the Army opened fire and they found him with a bulletproof vest and a gun.
«In the last year, Sinwar tried to escape from Justice, he escaped. We said we would find him and bring him to justice and we have done so. “It was Yayha Sinwar who decided to start the war with Israel, while hiding among civilians in Gaza.”IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a statement in English today.
The IDF has reported that they have also found Sinwar’s DNA in a Rafah tunnel a few meters from another underground where last August the Israeli Army recovered the bodies of six hostages taken that October 7.
As reported by the Times of Israelit is about same tunnel complex where there was also a room used by Hamas commandersa group that has not yet confirmed or commented on the death of its leader.
Born in 1962 in the Khan Younis refugee camp, southern Gaza Strip, Sinwar was elected leader of Hamas in the enclave in 2017 after developing a reputation as a staunch enemy of Israel and relentless with informants and since last November 6th it was the top leader of the group, which he joined when he was 19 years old.
In 1989 he was sentenced to four life sentences in Israel for plotting the kidnapping and murder of two Israeli soldiers and four Palestinian “collaborators.”but it was released in 2011 as part of the exchange of 1,047 Palestinian prisoners for the return of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
The Army and the Shin Bet, the internal security agency, reported that the Hamas leader died yesterday, Wednesday, October 16, in a military operation in the south of the enclave, in the Rafah area, bordering Egypt, after achieving intelligence information pointing to the location of “high-ranking Hamas members” in the area.
“Yahya Sinwar was eliminated after hiding for a year behind the civilian population of Gaza, both above ground and underground, in Hamas tunnels”indicated a military statement, which noted that, despite the delay of more than a year in finding their most wanted man, the intense military activity in the area “restricted their operational movement” and surrounded the target.
