Israel: Plan to assassinate the Minister of National Security foiled – 2024-04-07 05:14:19

Plan to assassinate the Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir announced today that Sin Bet has been cancelled. Israel’s internal security agency also says it has foiled attacks on Tel Aviv International Airport and other targets.

Seven Israelis of Arab origin and four Palestinians from the West Bank were arrested in connection with the case, the Shin Bet statement said.

The suspects were reportedly planning strikes on government buildings in Jerusalem, as well as military bases, while preparing an attack on the settlement where Ben Gvir lives in the West Bank, according to the same source.

Shin Bet reports that the group wanted to kill Israel’s national security minister with an anti-tank rocket and kidnap Israeli soldiers. At least one of those arrested allegedly had contacts with a member of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

The far-right minister had recently called for an end to negotiations for the release of Hamas hostages, suggesting the planning of new military operations, according to a report in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

In February 2023, Israeli police arrested a Palestinian man on charges of plotting the assassination of Itamar Ben Gvir.
