His vision for Israel was described in a documentary by Israeli minister Bezalel Smotrich. It is about his desire to conquer not only all the Palestinian territory up to the Jordan River but also all the lands up to the Syrian capital Damascus.
He also wants to conquer territories that extend to Iraq and Saudi Arabia, according to the same documentary of the Franco-German channel Arte.
Smotrich, finance minister in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet and head of the “Religious Zionism” party, spoke in the documentary titled “Israel: Extremists in Power.”
The researcher asked Smotrich if he believes that the borders of the Jewish state should extend beyond the Jordan River.
Smotrich responded by saying, “Absolutely, but slowly… The great religious elders were telling us that the future of Jerusalem was going to stretch all the way to Damascus.”
The narrator of the documentary then added: “Bezalel Smotrich has a maximalist vision of the promised land. And it includes all the Palestinian territories, but also territories in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Egypt. Even in Saudi Arabia. A radical vision to be sure, but one that is accepted in the public debate in Israel.”
Since the beginning of the Gaza genocide in October 2023, many Israeli soldiers, media personalities and politicians have talked about land acquisitions in a “greater Israel”.
