Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The results of the survey on side effects of the third or booster dose of Pfizer vaccine in Israel showed improvement over the second dose of vaccine. As many as 88% of participants in the survey said the side effects of the third dose of vaccine were similar or more ‘less’ than the second vaccine.
While 31% of participants reported some side effects such as pain or tenderness at the injection site. About 0.4% said they had difficulty breathing, and 1% of participants were forced to seek medical care due to some fairly severe side effects.
Reporting from Channel News Asia (CNA), Israel’s largest healthcare provider, Clalit, said it had administered the third dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to more than 240,000 people as of Sunday (8/8/2021).
Then about 4,500 people, all of whom received booster injections from July 30 to August 1, took part in the survey.
Clalit’s head of innovation, Ran Balicer, said the survey results allowed a comparison of side effects with a second dose.
“Although we have not had long-term studies on the efficacy and safety of third booster doses, for personal risk management of any person aged 60 years and over, these findings continue to demonstrate the benefits of immunization now, along with health protocols among adults and avoidance of congregating in confined spaces, ‘ said Balicer.
Israel began offering booster shots with the Pfizer vaccine around the end of July to people over the age of 60. This is done in an effort to slow the spread of the highly contagious delta variant of the corona virus.
This move effectively turned Israel into a testing ground for a third dose before it was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Israel now has a total of 900,482 infections and 6,542 deaths, according to Worldometers data as of Monday (9/8/2021).
