Israel launches nightly bombings in southern Gaza

The Israeli army has announced several night-time bombings in the southern Gaza Strip, one of which killed a prominent Hamas militant, while Palestinian medical sources have reported 50 civilians killed in these attacks, eleven of them in the town of Khan Yunis.

Israel has identified the deceased militant as Taha Abu Nada, one of the commanders of the rocket-launching division, killed in the series of attacks launched against Gaza City, Khan Yunis and Rafah to support the ground interventions of two divisions, in particular the one carried out in the Tel Sultan neighborhood, in the latter city.

Meanwhile, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing local medical sources, reported that Israeli bombings have left 50 dead and dozens injured in the past few hours.

According to Wafa, the attacks have been concentrated in several areas in the west, east and centre of Khan Yunis, where eleven people have died. At least three dead people have been recovered in Rafah – where there are, however, “dozens of bodies” under the rubble – and there are reports of deaths in the Nuseirat displaced persons camp and in Deir al-Bala.

The Palestinian Red Crescent has recently denounced a “direct attack” by an Israeli drone on the Al Amal hospital, where victims of attacks in Khan Yunis usually receive medical care.

The attack, the NGO claims, took place on the second floor of the hospital, where the rehabilitation area is located, and left no victims to mourn.

“This violation comes amid an intensification of airstrikes and continued attacks on displaced people and residential areas in several parts of Khan Younis Governorate,” the Red Crescent added.

Israel’s incursion into the West Bank is unsuccessful

In the last few hours, the Israeli army has also entered the West Bank town of Qalqilya in search of two “unidentified” individuals during an operation that has triggered a clash with Palestinian residents.

The Times of Israel, citing Israeli security sources, reported that Palestinians threw explosive devices at soldiers, who responded with gunfire, hitting at least one Palestinian whose condition is unknown.

Israeli forces have since abandoned the West Bank town without any news of the two people they were searching for.
