Israel has killed key Hamas leader Saleh Al Arouri in a drone strike on an office of the organization in the Lebanese capital Beirut. Hamas confirms Al Arouri’s death.
Al Arouri was the deputy leader of Hamas’s political bureau. He is said to have been closely involved with the military branch of Hamas, the Al Qassam Brigades. Al Arouri was one of the founders of the military branch.
Al Arouri is the highest-ranking Hamas leader Israel has killed since Hamas’s attack on October 7. The Israeli army has not yet confirmed the attack.
According to Lebanese state media, Israel’s drone strike killed three others in addition to Al Arouri. At least eleven people were injured.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the attack as a “new Israeli crime”.
