Israel is starting to vaccinate health risk groups with a fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine

Israel began vaccinating a fourth dose of Covid-19 vaccine on Friday in populations at higher risk of developing the disease or spreading the disease – the weakened immune system, seniors and carers.

Heart and lung transplant patients were the first to be vaccinated with the fourth dose on Friday morning at the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv.

A new wave of Covid-19 has begun in Israel, fueled by the spread of the omicron variant of coronavirus. On Thursday, 4,085 new infections were detected in the country, the highest rate since September.

The country has introduced new strict restrictions to curb the spread of the virus during anniversary celebrations, including the mandatory wearing of face masks to outdoor events attended by more than 50 people, and events attended by more than 100 people require a Covid-19 green certificate.

In Israel, with a population of 9.3 million, 8,243 people have died from Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic. More than 6.5 million people in the country have received at least one dose of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, and more than 4.2 million have received two doses and a booster vaccine.
