Israeli President Isaac Herzog addressed US Ambassador Tom Nides in Jerusalem on Sunday, saying that “if the international community fails to resolve the issue of the Iranian nuclear threat, Israel will do so and defend itself.”
“Without a doubt, the biggest challenge facing Israel and the United States is the common threat posed by Iran,” the Israeli president told the new American ambassador during the unveiling of the letter of credence that binds the two countries.
Tom Niles, who is the 21st United States Ambassador to Israel, told Herzog that the United States is a partner of Israel, and is committed to ensuring the security and prosperity of both countries.
“I can work with your brother, my counterpart, Mike Herzog, Israeli Ambassador to the United States, to strengthen our diplomatic relations,” he added.
Further, he stressed that “Biden supports the renewal of the Iron Dome rearmament in Israel to encourage it to defend itself,” while reaffirming the United States’ objective on the issue of the Iranian threat, “we will strengthen the issue of peace and security in Israel and we will fight so that Iran never reaches nuclear weapons. “
The Israeli president thanked the Americans for their support for Israel.
“We want to strengthen the peace agreements in the region and improve the situation of the Palestinians. We will strengthen the trade ties between the countries, which are already strong today,” Niles said.
“We will oppose all attempts to isolate Israel,” he concluded.
Finally, the American Ambassador visited Kibbutz Ein Hashofet where he volunteered at the age of 15.
