The potential for war in the Middle East was conveyed by Israeli Settlement Minister Tzachi Hanegbi when the US presidential election vote counting process continued. Biden has so far won 264 electoral votes, ahead of Trump who won 214 electoral votes. (Read: Panicking over the results of the US Presidential Election, Donald Trump Jr. Calls for Total War)
Hanegbi, as quoted from The Jerusalem Post, Saturday (7/11/2020), argued that Biden’s stance on the nuclear agreement, officially named the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), could actually lead to war between Iran and Israel.
“Biden has long said publicly that he will return to the nuclear agreement,” he said. “I see it as something that will lead to a confrontation between Israel and Iran,” he said.
Hanegbi also reportedly insisted that he, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and most Israelis regard the JCPOA as “a mistake”.
“If Biden sticks with that policy, in the end there will be a violent confrontation between Israel and Iran,” the minister said. (Also read: Prince of Saudi Arabia: If So President of the US, Biden is like Trump Pro-Israel)
But Knesset Foreign and Defense Affairs Committee chairman Zvi Hauser adopted a “more optimistic approach”, describing Biden as a true friend of Israel.
“I assume that even if the Iran (nuclear) deal is renewed … it will be better than the previous one,” he told Army Radio.
