Israel has notified the US of limited ground operations in Lebanon

US officials say military operations could begin very soon.

“I have seen reports of ground activity. We have been talking to them about this; they’ve told us this is a limited operation targeting Hezbollah infrastructure along the border,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters.

Israel’s armed forces today declared part of its northern border a “closed military zone”.

On the other hand, the Lebanese army has begun to move the troops stationed at the southern border, a Lebanese military official told the AFP news agency.

The Lebanese army is “reorganizing and redeploying forces” on the southern border following threats from Israel to launch attacks on Hezbollah targets, a military official said.

Hezbollah began shelling Israel a day after the October 7 attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on southern Israel that sparked the war in the Gaza Strip.

Israel has shifted the focus of its operations from the Gaza Strip to Lebanon in recent days, where strikes have killed hundreds of people and displaced more than 200,000 since last Monday.
