Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Talks Fail in Cairo as Gaza Crisis Worsens: 97 Killed in Past 24 Hours

Cairo: The last efforts to implement a six-week temporary ceasefire before Ramadan in Gaza, where the Israeli genocide continues, have failed. Negotiations stalled after Israel did not send representatives to the talks in Cairo. Senior Hamas representative Basim Naim said that they submitted their proposals as part of the two-day talks. However, Israel continued to be non-cooperative.

Israel had demanded that Hamas release a list of 40 hostages to be released in a phased ceasefire. Egypt and Qatar, the mediators, made demands to Hamas to prepare it. However, Hamas has stated that it will not be able to provide information on the hostages held in various places without a cease-fire in Gaza, where the base area is crumbling.

Hamas demanded the release of 500 Palestinians in exchange for the release of 40 elderly and female hostages. They also called for the unconditional release of aid across Gaza and the full return to northern Gaza. With the stalled talks, there are fears that the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza will worsen.

More than 85 percent of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million are homeless, where 30,631 Palestinians have been killed so far. Israel has already demolished more than half of the buildings. Reports say a massive food shortage and the death toll are mounting in the town as aid trucks are held back. Jordan announced that aid was distributed to different areas of Gaza in eight flights.

Meanwhile, the Gaza Ministry of Health announced that 97 more people were killed in the past 24 hours. 123 people were injured.
