Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Talks Amid Heavy Fighting in Southern Gaza

Gaza – Reports of progress in ongoing talks between Israel and Hamas for a month-long ceasefire. The 30-day cease-fire is intended to allow Israelis held hostage by Hamas and Palestinians in prison to cross paths with each other. However, an Israeli government spokesman dismissed media reports about talks brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the US and the possibility of a ceasefire.

There is no end to Israel’s offensive in southern Gaza, where a fierce war is taking place. The advance of Israeli army tanks caused heavy damage in the city of Khan Yunis. The Israeli forces asked 500,000 people, including locals and refugees from the north, to leave the city, causing panic. Many people were killed in the attacks on Nasser Hospital and the headquarters of the Palestine Red Crescent Society. Israeli forces have ordered the evacuation of all three medical facilities, including Nasser Hospital, the only remaining major hospital in the region. Israel alleges that these are hideouts for Hamas operatives. The Gaza Health Ministry said 25,700 Palestinians have been killed since the war began on October 7. 63,740 people were injured. 210 people have been killed in Gaza in the last 24 hours.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi accused Israel of delaying aid to the people of Gaza. He said that the Rafah border is open 24 hours a day and that Israel is applying pressure by not allowing the entry of aid trucks. Relatives of Israeli nationals held hostage by Hamas gathered in the Karam Abu Salam border area in protest and blocked the delivery of aid to Gaza. They demand that nothing be given to Gaza until Hamas releases the hostages.

Israeli settlers in the West Bank have carried out 120 attacks against Palestinians there so far this month, according to figures from the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission. It also includes the killing of a Palestinian-American boy in Asharqiya in the village of Al Masra near Ramallah. There are reports that the divisions within the Israeli government over the release of the hostages and the cease-fire are coming out of hiding. The reason for the anger of various political parties in Israel is that the war, which started with the goal of completely eliminating Hamas, is continuing without end and the release of the prisoners is not complete. Meanwhile, authorities announced that those who sprayed a foul-smelling chemical solution on those who held a pro-Palestinian rally last Friday at Columbia University in the US were expelled from the campus.

Iranian President in Turkey

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi arrived in Turkey and held talks with President Tayyip Erdogan. Their focus is on steps to end the war in Gaza without flaring up across the region.
