TEL AVIV – The United States (US) government pushed Israel into a one-time deal to supply Ukraine with mysterious “strategic materials” several weeks ago.

This was revealed on Thursday (11/17/2022) by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz. Tel Aviv reportedly wants details of the deal kept secret to avoid angering Russia.

Citing three “senior European diplomatic officials,” Haaretz reported that Washington approached the Israeli government several weeks ago.

The US pressured Israel to supply anti-aircraft batteries to Ukraine. Even if Israel had refused the request, it would have financed “strategic material” instead.

“Several million dollars have been transferred to NATO member states heavily involved in supplying military equipment to Ukraine,” the report said.

The country then buys the materials and ships them to Ukraine.

Haaretz sources demanded that the nature of this material be kept confidential, while Tel Aviv asked all parties involved in the deal not to disclose it publicly, “so as not to anger (Russian President Vladimir) Putin”.

The Haaretz report did not name the NATO members involved in the deal. However, it resembles previous gray market deals involving Poland.
