Wien. After drastic criticism from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Austria summoned the Turkish ambassador in Vienna to the Foreign Ministry. “The Turkish President’s allegations are self-evident. The Middle East conflict will not be resolved with foam at the mouth,” said Austria’s Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg on Tuesday.
Erdogan had condemned the Austrian government’s solidarity with Israel in the conflict with the Islamist Hamas. “I curse the Austrian state. The Austrian state is probably trying to issue the bill to the Muslims for the Jews who subjected it to genocide, ”Erdogan said on Monday.
Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and Foreign Minister Schallenberg condemned the attacks from Gaza on Israel on Friday and had Israeli flags flown on the Federal Chancellery and the Foreign Ministry in Vienna as a sign of solidarity. Schallenberg justified this with a consistent stance on the part of Austria towards terror.
