Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Israeli Army fired artillery shells at Lebanon south in response after four rockets aimed at its territory on Wednesday (19/5). Although previously Israeli missile defenses managed to repel one of the projectiles.
“Four rockets were fired at Israeli territory. The Iron Dome Air Defense System intercepted one of them and the rest most likely fell in an open area,” the Israeli Army said in a statement. AFP.
The Israeli army in an official statement confirmed that the artillery attacked a number of targets in Lebanese territory after the rocket delivery to the area.
The rocket caused air raid sirens to roar over the northern city of Haifa and areas in the east. Security sources in Lebanon were quoted Reuters confirmed that four rockets were previously launched towards Israel from Seddiqine – a village in the area of the southern Lebanese coastal city of Tire.
It is the third incident of rocket fire from Lebanon since hostilities between Israel and Palestinian militant groups flared in Gaza on May 10.
On Monday last week, six bullets were fired from Lebanon towards northern Israel but fell far over the border. The attack triggered return artillery fire from Israel.
The three rockets that were launched towards Israel on Thursday a few days later landed in the Mediterranean Sea and caused no damage or casualties.
Until now, it is not clear who was behind the firing of the rocket and there have been no reports of damage from either side.
However, in southern Lebanon there is the headquarters of Hezbollah, the group that fought with Israel in 2006. However, Hezbollah claims that they were not the ones who fired the rockets.
This small Palestinian faction in Lebanon has fired sporadically on Israel in the past.
