On Saturday, the Israeli military said that three rockets were fired from Syria towards the Golan Heights, and that one of them crossed into Israeli-controlled territory and landed in an open field.
The Israeli army said in a statement that “three rockets were launched from Syria towards Israel, one of which passed into Israeli territory and landed in an open area south of the Golan Heights.”
The statement added: “No interception missiles were launched in accordance with the established policy.”
The statement confirmed that the Israeli army activated sirens in the south of the Golan Heights.
In response to the rocket fire, Israeli tanks bombed targets inside Syrian territory, according to the Sky News Arabia correspondent.
On Thursday, a barrage of rockets was fired at Israel from southern Lebanon, prompting Tel Aviv to respond with cross-border air strikes on Hamas-linked positions in Lebanon and Gaza.
European condemnation
On Saturday, the European Union condemned the attacks in Israel and the firing of rockets from Lebanon towards the Jewish state, and called for “restraint.”
“The European Union expresses its complete condemnation of these acts of violence,” said Josep Borrell, the EU’s foreign policy coordinator, after Friday’s attacks in Tel Aviv.
He also condemned the rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, stressing, “We urge all parties to exercise utmost restraint to avoid further escalation and to promote calm during the ongoing religious holidays.”
According to Borrell, “Israel has the right to defend itself. At the same time, any response must be proportionate.”
