Israel Exposes Secret Messages Revealing Iran’s Support for Hamas: The Times

The British newspaper “The Times” revealed that Israel had obtained “secret messages” exposing the extent of Iran’s support for Hamas, which was behind the October 7 attacks.

The source said that the written letters were addressed to a man called “Abu Ibrahim,” known to the rest of the world as Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza.

An attachment to one of the letters stated: “Attached is a schedule of payments from Iran between 2014 and 2020.”

The Times explained, “The correspondence, which was discovered during the war in Gaza, is considered, according to the Israeli army, as compelling evidence of a complex series of payments, which sheds light on the extent of Tehran’s ongoing funding of the armed group.”

One of the letters was written by the deputy military commander of Hamas in Gaza, Marwan Issa, and signed it as “Abu Al-Baraa.” It appears to include details of at least $222 million received from Iran.

Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israeli army, announced late last month that Israel had liquidated Marwan Issa.

What are the details of secret messages?

  • The first letter, dating from 2020, shows monthly payments from Iran, starting in July 2014, while Hamas was fighting a previous war with Israel.
  • In total, $154 million was transferred during this six-year period.
  • The letter also highlighted the allocations, which were delivered directly to Sinwar in cash, and in one case to “Abu al-Abd,” believed to be Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’ political bureau.
  • The second letter was in November 2021 and begins with: “In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. To my dear brother Abu Ibrahim.” It reviews the details of payments from Iran, after the war that Hamas fought that year, which was called the Battle of the “Sword of Jerusalem.”
  • Iranian payments after the war included $58 million, and two additional sums worth $5 million were received.
  • The second letter also explains how most of the money was allocated to Hamas’ “combat wing,” along with a smaller amount to the political wing and $2 million directly to Sinwar.
  • It is believed that the money was arriving in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, from Iran in cash, where officers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard handed it over to people with ties to Hamas.
