Israel Denies Coercing Palestinians to Flee Gaza Strip

Tel Aviv

Israel denied it was trying to coerce civilians Palestine Of Gaza Strip to flee and leave their homes permanently during the war Hamas rages.

The rebuttal was delivered after United Nations (UN) expressed concern over hundreds of thousands of civilians in the Gaza Strip who were forced to flee a series of Israeli air strikes. That’s as reported AFP and Al ArabiyaMonday (4/12/2023).

In its latest count, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that around 1.8 million people in the Gaza Strip, or around 75 percent of the population, had been displaced by the war. Many of them were forced to flee to overcrowded and unhygienic shelters.

Speaking to journalists on Monday (4/12) local time, Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus emphasized that his party was not trying to force Gaza civilians to leave their homes permanently.

“We are not trying to displace anyone, we are not trying to move anyone from anywhere permanently,” Conricus stressed.

“We have asked civilians to evacuate the battlefield and we have provided a designated humanitarian zone within the Gaza Strip,” he said, referring to a small coastal area called Al-Mawasi.

Any call for mass evacuation of Palestinians is highly controversial in the Arab world, as the war that led to the founding of the state of Israel some 75 years ago triggered the forced exodus or displacement of 760,000 Palestinians — an event known as the ‘Nakba’, meaning ‘catastrophe’. .
