Israel has informed the UN that 1.1 million Palestinians must evacuate to the southern Gaza Strip within 24 hours. This was announced by the representative of the Secretary General of the world organization, Stephane Dujarric.
“Today (12 October) shortly before midnight local time, the heads of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the Department of Safety and Security teams in Gaza were informed by their liaison officers in the Israeli military that the entire population of Gaza north of Wadi Gaza must move to the south Gases within the next 24 hours,” Dujarric said.
This, he said, is approximately 1.1 million people.
“The same order applies to all UN staff and those located in UN agencies, including schools, health centers and clinics. The UN believes that such a movement is impossible without devastating humanitarian consequences,” he said.
As Dujarric stated, “The UN strongly urges that such an order should be rescinded if confirmed, to avoid turning what is already a tragedy into a catastrophic situation.”
