Jakarta –
Israeli troops continue to carry out military attacks on Gaza Strip. Palestinians trapped in the besieged Gaza Strip are now forced to eat grass in an effort to stave off accompanying starvation Israel continues to hamper the delivery of aid to civilians in the region.
This was conveyed by the humanitarian group ActionAid, as reported Middle East MonitorSaturday (10/2/2024).
In addition to the humanitarian situation and the lack of food, water and medical care, residents who have been displaced several times since October 7, are now at risk of being forced out of their shelters again. This is because Israeli troops appear to be expanding their ground attack on the southernmost city of Gaza, Rafahwhere more than 1.4 million Palestinians now live in makeshift tents.
Amid fears of a land invasion in Rafah, ActionAid has warned that any escalation of attacks on the region would have dire consequences.
“There is no place for people anymore Gaza to evacuate. “More than 85% of its 2.3 million residents have been forced to flee their homes over the past four months, and many have been displaced multiple times,” ActionAid said.
“The large influx of people arriving in Rafah has put enormous pressure on infrastructure and resources, but thousands continue to arrive,” ActionAid said in a statement.
“People are now so desperate that they are eating grass as a last resort to prevent hunger,” said Riham Jafari, ActionAid’s advocacy and communications coordinator, as reported by Middle East MonitorSaturday (10/2/2024).
