Israel confirms attack on targets in Iran

– In response to months of continuous attacks by the Iranian regime against the State of Israel – the Israel Defense Forces are carrying out precision strikes against military targets in Iran, writes IDF spokesman Nadav Shoshani on X.

Both Axios and CNN had early sources that Israel had carried out airstrikes in Iran.

– Israel has begun its retaliatory attacks against Iran, reports CNN on its website.

The White House should have known about the attacks shortly before, both Fox News and Reuters report.

– We understand it to mean that Israel will carry out targeted attacks against military targets in Iran in self-defense. We are referring you to the Israeli government for more information on their work, said Sean Savett, a spokesman for the White House National Security Council, in a statement.

– The sky turned red

State Iranian TV is also reporting several large explosions in the capital. Iran’s intelligence agency says it is investigating the cause of the explosion and says air defense systems may be to blame.

Israel is said to have attacked a military base belonging to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in the attack on Saturday morning, two sources said NBC News.

In addition, an anonymous Israeli official tells the channel that Israel has prioritized military targets and attacked nuclear power plants and oil facilities.

– We are targeting things that have threatened us in the past and may threaten us in the future, says the source.

There are also reports of commercial flights being diverted from Iranian airspace as a result of the blast.

– It was so high, and the sky turned red, said a witness in Tehran, according to Reuters.

Expected response

Israel has been planning a response against Iran since the October 1 rocket attack. The attack was Iran’s second direct attack on Israel in the past six months.

Iran fired nearly 200 rockets at Israel, most of which are said to have been shot down.

The Iranian attack was said to be revenge for the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and the summer killing of Hamas political exile Ismail Haniyeh while he was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran’s new president.

Iranian authorities have warned Israel not to respond to the attack and have vowed to retaliate with even greater force.
