“The boycott of Israel, a democracy surrounded by islands of terror, reflects a loss of direction. The boycott did not work and will not work, and we will fight it with all our might,” he said.
Meanwhile, the boycott, divestment and Israeli sanctions (BDS) movement welcomed Ben & Jerry’s move. BDS called it a decisive step to end the company’s involvement in the Israeli occupation and violations of Palestinian rights.
“Ben & Jerry’s, a leading international socially responsible company, has finally brought its policies on the Israeli regime’s oppression of Palestinians in line with its progressive position on Black Lives Matter and other justice struggles,” he said.
However, Vermonters for Justice in Palestine said the move still failed to address widespread anger over the Israeli government’s actions against Palestinians living in the occupied territories and that Ben & Jerry’s should completely disengage from Israel.
