Cohen said that “of course we condemn Russian aggression” but noted the “unique position” of Jerusalem.
Direct speech: “We are not like your country (he meant Germany – ed.). Russia is a key player in our region, including in Syria. Therefore, I think that we are doing our best in all aspects.”
Details: Cohen also recalled his recent visit to Kyiv. This was the first visit by a senior Israeli official to Ukraine since the start of a full-scale Russian invasion.
What preceded this:
- Cohen met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv and promised to provide Ukraine with an air threat warning system for civilians.
- Cohen said that Israel intends to support the peace formula proposed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
- In early February, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a meeting with the French President, said that he was ready to send “military items” to Ukraine, but was not ready to go too far so as not to provoke Russia.
