Israeli military spokesman Avichai Adraei said in a press statement the barrier, which stretches 40 miles, is linked by a fence above it, a sea barrier, detection system and firing observatory.
The wall took three and a half years to build and cost $1.1 billion.
“Israel has built the most complex project to prevent the Hamas tunnel threat,” Adraei said.
“Israel is committed to protecting its citizens from any harm emanating from the Gaza Strip,” he added.

Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz spoke during the wall’s inauguration ceremony.
“This barrier, a first-rate creative technology project, counters Hamas one of the capabilities it is trying to develop and places an ‘iron wall’, sensors and concrete between the terror organization and the inhabitants of southern Israel,” Gantz said.
The Gaza Strip witnessed four fierce wars between armed Palestinian and Israeli factions between 2008 and 2021, in which Israel inflicted heavy damage on the enclave on the Palestinian coast and killed or injured thousands of Palestinians.
