Israel is calling in the ambassadors of Belgium and Spain following statements by the two countries’ prime ministers during the press conference at the Gaza border, reports Reuters.
Pedro Sanchéz and Alexander De Croo, the prime ministers of Spain and Belgium respectively, held a press conference together with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi on Friday afternoon.
At the press conference, the three heads of state called for a permanent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, stating that the current ceasefire is not enough.
At the same time, Sanchez stated that Spain can make its own decisions regarding the recognition of a Palestinian state, if the EU does not.
Afterwards, Israel’s foreign minister called the two countries’ ambassadors in for a reprimand, at the behest of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
– We reject false claims from the prime ministers of Spain and Belgium, who support terrorists, says Cohen to the Jerusalem Post.
In a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the two heads of state were criticized for not holding Hamas responsible for the massacre of Israeli civilians and the use of Palestinian civilians as human shields during the press conference.
