Government Israel called on its citizens to leave immediately Egypt and Jordan. This call was made on Saturday (21/10) when regional tensions increased due to the war in Gaza.
“Israel’s National Security Council raised its travel warning for Egypt (including Sinai) and Jordan to level 4 (high threat): recommendation against travel to these countries and for those living there to leave…as soon as possible,” Israel’s National Security Council said in a statement, quoted by the news agency AFPSaturday (21/10/2023).
The notice was issued just days after Israel withdrew its diplomats from Turkey as a security precaution, following earlier calls for its citizens to also leave Turkey.
The call for evacuation came after days of protests in the Middle East over Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip.
The war in Gaza occurred after the militia group Hamas stormed into Israel from the Gaza Strip, taking more than 200 hostages and killing at least 1,400, mostly civilians.
Israel has since vowed to destroy Hamas. A series of airstrikes launched in response have so far killed 4,137 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to the state-run Health Ministry. Hamas.
